Q ) How does the consignment process work?
Short answer:
Complete the required paperwork, bring in your items for review, and we'll inspect, price, and sell accepted items on your behalf. You'll receive 50% of the selling price for each item sold.
Detailed answer:
You will complete the Consignment Contract and Pricing Sheet before bringing your items to Next-to-New. Review the Accepted/Not Accepted Items List and ensure all items are clean, in excellent condition, and within the per-visit quantity limits. At drop-off, volunteers inspect each item for quality, condition, functionality, and marketability. Accepted items are entered into inventory and placed on the sales floor. You can monitor your inventory and sales through your online consignor account. Most items remain on consignment for 59 days (some categories are 29 days), after which eligible items may be reclaimed or donated according to the Consignment Agreement.
Q) What days are you open for consignment?
Consignments are accepted on a walk up basis Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please arrive by 12:00 p.m. and use the double doors near the back corner of the building. Before visiting, check the annual calendar or our website and social media for holiday closures or schedule changes.
Q) How many items can I bring?
You may bring up to 15 items per visit, subject to category limits (for example, up to 6 clothing items, 6 jewelry items, 6 books, 2 handbags, 2 lamps, and 2 pieces of wall art). This helps volunteers process consignments efficiently and keeps wait times manageable.
Q) Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are required for furniture, rugs, and large sets of china, crystal, or dishes. All other consignments are accepted during regular consignment hours on a first-come, first-served basis. Email merchandise@next2new.org with photos and to make an appointment.
Q) How long are items on consignment?
Most merchandise remains on the sales floor for 59 days. Select categories (including apparel, books, and some home décor) have a 29-day consignment period.
Q) How are prices reduced?
Items are automatically discounted during the consignment period according to Next-to-New pricing policies.
Q) Can I reclaim my items?
Only items originally priced at $50 or more are eligible for reclaim if they remain unsold. You must pick up the item before it goes down to the last price. PROCESS?
All other eligible unsold items become donations at the end of the consignment period.
Q) How do I get paid?
Consignors receive 50% of the selling price. Checks are available after the 10th of each month when your balance reaches $10 or more.
Q) What happens to items that don't sell?
Eligible reclaim items may be picked up before the reclaim deadline. All remaining items become donations that support Next-to-New shop’s charitable mission.
